Information About Cascara Sagrada
We’ve already discussed why Senna can be dangerous for your body. Well, another common colon cleansing herb that should be used with extreme care, is Cascara Sagrada.
Cascara Sagrada is known for it’s natural and powerful laxative effects. If you suffer from constipation, then Cascara Sagrada can be your friend, but ONLY if you use it correctly.
If you use Cascara Sagrada excessively, then it is very likely that you can do damage to your body, more specifically, cause bowel dependency and severe bleeding in your intestinal tract. It is never wise to use Cascara Sagrada for longer than 7 consecutive days. Please keep in mind that most colon cleansing products that utilize the power of Cascara Sagrada, last about 30 days!
Cascara Sagrada is originally derived from the bark of the Rhamnus Purshiana tree, but if it’s not prepared correctly, then it can actually cause some pretty wicked problems within your body. If the bark is not prepared correctly, it can cause you to have severe and bloody diarrhea. In order for Cascara Sagrada to work properly, the bark must be aged for at least one year, but it is also possible that the bark is heat-treated prior to use. Because of the complicated preparation process, it is important to know that you are getting Cascara Sagrada from a good source. Or you might be paying the consequences later.
Because it is considered “natural” and contained in so many colon cleansing products, many people believe it is safe to use as much as they want. But this is simply not true. It is NEVER recommended to use Cascara Sagrada for longer than 7 consecutive days. It is also NEVER recommended that you take it without doctor consultation first. People need to realize that Cascara Sagrada is a serious threat to people, especially if they are already afflicted with a current bowel condition. There are side effects & dangers to Cascara Sagrada. It’s not something you just want to leisurely take. It is ALWAYS recommended to find out exactly what are in these herbal colon cleansing products, before you ingest them. Cascara Sagrada should be avoided at all costs…. The benefits just don’t justify the risks.

Gentelmen,
I used AIM’s herbal blend and contains cascara sagrada. There are so many products in the market that I do not know which is best. Could you simplify as to which are the safe ingredients and effective at the same time. Any suggestions or recommendations it is appreciated.

I used AIM’s herbal fiber blend product for over 15 years believing the multi-level marketing hype that said it was safe to use daily and would keep me from having nasty colon issues. So imaging my surprise when I began to have some unpleasant symptoms, and a colonoscopy and biopsy revealed I had Stage III colon cancer! Not only that, but the diagnosing physician told me I had severe melanosis coli. The herb people admit this is a side effect of cascara sagrada and say it is simply a “stain”, but I have found further research indicating it is an actual change at the cellular level and may have contributed to my cancer! Fortunately I survived the surgery and chemo. Now I manage my colon by using high-fiber real food and feel great. Wish I had figured it out before I had to go through all this.

I am a 64 years old male. I have always been very healthy in fact, I have only been to three Doctors in my lifetime. Couple years ago, I was beginning to have problems with irregularity. Nothing serious. About a year ago, a phamacist recommended Cascara Sagrada. I started taking one daily, as it was losing “it’s” punch, I began taking two in the morning.About two weeks, I was beginning to feel cramps and totally clogged. Needless to say, it scared the heck out of me and I stopped taking them all together. After a couple weeks of no movement,for immediate relief, I took something called Citroma. this thing was great. Just minutes after taking it, I was in the bathroom. I was there for three hours. I think I left all the gunk behind and I felt great. the problem? You can’t use that product but once in a while. Now, I am back to the cloggines and ready to go to the ER for a cure for it. I am scared to death, but I think it was my fault. Cascara Sagrada, the culprit.
